The accomplishments of Maureen FitzSimons as a young actor in America (or what we would call Maureen O'Hara today) would certainly put her in the "child prodigy" category. As a person that had Irish origins, and surrounded as she was by gifted parents as well as a family full filled with talented individuals, these traits came naturally. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin the capital of Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons was the woman who raised her. She was a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin-based firm and also was a shareholder in the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a fan of rough and sports as a kid and was a pro in athletics. Her naturally-born interest with her ability to perform was impressive. This is why she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances in her country of birth. Her acceptance at the Abbey Theater by age 14 She then continued to pursue her dream of opera and classical music and theatre.
